Card Conditions – What They Mean
At Card Guardian, we know how important condition is to collectors. We use industry-standard terminology to describe each card, so you know exactly what you’re getting. Here's a guide to what each condition means
Near Mint (NM)
Description:
The card is virtually perfect. It may have very slight edge or corner wear, but no major flaws. Suitable for high-end collections.
Typical Characteristics:
No creases or bends
Minimal to no whitening
Gloss and color intact
Lightly Played (LP)
Description:
The card has minor signs of use, such as light scuffing, small edge wear, or slight surface scratches. Still in collectible condition.
Typical Characteristics:
Slight border wear or corner nicks
Minor surface scratching
May have slight shuffle wear
Moderately Played (MP)
Description:
Visible wear but still playable in sleeves. May show whitening, border wear, or light creases, but no major damage.
Typical Characteristics:
Obvious edge/corner wear
Light surface scratching or fading
Small marks or dings
Heavily Played (HP)
Description:
Card shows significant wear but is still intact and usable. Not suitable for collectors, but can be used in casual play.
Typical Characteristics:
Major edge/corner wear
Visible creases or scratches
Possible ink marks or fading
Damaged
Description:
The card has tears, water damage, heavy creases, or peeling. It may still be usable for proxies or nostalgia but not for competitive play or serious collecting.

Large creases or bends
Missing parts, stains, or holes
Water or ink damage
